# Feature Release: Earnings Boosts

Nook is on a mission to connect you to **higher earnings**. Starting with stablecoin lending. We first started with one earning source, on one network. Since then, we have grown to 8+ markets across 5+ networks.

But shifting the way everyone earns is a monumental change and comes with friction. That's why we have revamped our promo code system including **referral codes** and **one time boosts.** Let's start with why this is important and go deeper into each.

### Why boosts matter

Nook is new. And Nook is different. We recognize that, although it's built on $50B+ of exisitng funds belonging to borrowers and lenders, the majority of people using Nook are lending their stablecoins for the first time. Despite the fact that we have a proven track record and have successfully facilitated over $500 million in transactions - there is always a hesitancy to try something new. That's true for Nook.

That's why, we are rolling out a new promo code and referral code system - including new codes that will be shared regularly for new and existing customers.

Because sometimes, trying something new just requires a bit of a nudge in the right direction.

### Referral codes

When it came to revamping our boost code system - we decided to start with what was already working well. **Referral codes.**

Over 2,000 users joined Nook as a referral. Over 500+ customers have referred someone to Nook.

Referrals drive almost 8% of all sign ups and have outsized network effects. Those who are referred are 3x more likely to deposit, and 28% more likely to keep their funds on Nook.

One Nook user has referred over 289 users to Nook. That's one guy.

We think being referred to Nook by a friend is the best way to discover Nook. From one customer to another.

The current referral boost system is simple. For every person that joins Nook with your unique code and deposits, you, the referrer, get a 1% APY boost. The person being referred, also gets a 1% APY boost.

Those boosts stack up, so you can earn as much as you refer. Nook pays those referrals out daily, after the 30-day boost period (limited to earning on the first $10,000 of your deposits.) It's a simple system that's been working. But we are excited to make it even more rewarding for super referrers (those who refer 10+ people) and those who refer large amounts of deposits ($100,000 or more) to Nook.

These boosts are paid out directly from Nook to your Nook account in cash (USDC) via our treasury wallet. No claiming of rewards. No delays or drops.

### Earnings boosts

Earnings boosts are a bit of a different beast.

Earnings boosts also come directly from our treasury account. But just require a one-time code. These can be cash bonuses (Eg. $20) or a percentage based earnings boost (Eg. 5% APY.)

Shared some great feedback with Nook? Get a 10% APY boost. Helped us identify a bug in our app? Get a 5% APY boost. It's all meant to say thank you and encourage you to earn more. Earnings boosts are designed around (1) a code (2) a duration (3) a cap (4) a reward.

### How the system(s) work

The system now works through a series of checks and balances. Starting from when you (1) entered a code and (2) took a qualifying action.

#### Principal only checks

Deposit bonuses now use principal-only checks. Promo payouts and pre-enrollment yield do not help someone cross a minimum deposit threshold. The system looks for real net deposits after enrollment, then checks that the customer maintained the required amount through the hold period.

#### Timing

Referral bonuses now handle timing more fairly. If someone funded before entering a code, the reward window can anchor to their first eligible funding event instead of forcing them to wait another full period just because the code came later.

#### Queue

Payouts also got more reliable. Once a reward qualifies, the system commits the payout amount and moves it to PAYMENT\_QUEUED. If a transfer needs to retry, it retries the same committed amount instead of recalculating against a moving balance.

#### Allow lists

We also added allowlists for promos. Most codes are open by default. But some campaigns should be limited to a specific group of customers. The new allowlist flow lets us do that cleanly.

### What this means for you

We are building the future of earning out in the open. And how we operate, from security, to safety, to our earnings boosts - are shared with our customers.

This is something we are excited about, and hope you are too.
